About the event

Let’s travel back in time to when the Calusa ruled South Florida.

In the 1500s, if you lived in the southern half of Florida, you likely would have either lived in a Calusa town, a town allied to the Calusa, or a town that paid tribute to the Calusa. But how did the Calusa become so powerful, and were they always powerful?

This talk blends the cultural and environmental history of Southwest Florida during the Calusa period. Learn about who the Calusa were, their rises and falls, and how they and the environment influenced one another.

Presented by the Mound House.
